The Ford F-150 is an undisputed hit with the American public, with the F-series being named the best-selling vehicle in the US every year for decades now. The F-150 comes with quite a few advantages over the competition but with the huge variety of configurations, drivetrains, and uses, it’s not always easy to tell what sets one truck apart from the others on the market. That’s why our team at Sarchione Ford of Randolph put together this guide, to highlight the upsides of the F-150 and what makes it such a popular choice.

Versatility is key to a good pickup truck and a part of the reason why the legendary Ford F-150 is so popular is that finding one to do exactly what you need it for is so much easier than with other brands. It has more cab/bed combinations and more engine options as well. It should therefore come as no surprise that the F-150 also boasts the highest towing capacity and payload capacity in the segment. Among those many drivetrain options is a hybrid option which most competitors don’t offer. In fairness, Toyota does offer a hybrid Tundra but it’s also the only engine choice and it is significantly less powerful than the F-150 PowerBoost™ Full Hybrid V6. While GMC and Ram have announced electric versions of their pickups. Ford has beat both of them to the market by several years. The dynamic all-electric Ford F-150 Lightning has been out long enough to earn a slew of awards and take its spot as the best-selling electric truck in the US.
One of the major strengths of the Ford F-150 is that there are configuration options that simply aren’t offered by competitors. Chief among these is the F-150 Raptor. Although off-road trims certainly exist for other trucks, the F-150 Raptor is purpose-built high-octane truck inspired by the legendary Baja 1000 race. Ram did build the 1500 TRX as a competitor but with its much higher starting price, the TRX always struggled to compete. Now that the TRX has been discontinued and the Raptor continues on, it’s once again a unique offering for the segment.
While the Ford F-150 Lightning isn’t the only electric pickup in the world, it is the only one that could really be said to fit into this segment. Rivian’s offering is too small and is quite expensive. The GMC Hummer EV Pickup is double the price and isn’t exactly big on practicality either. Tesla has the Cybertruck, but pricing is once again an issue, as is practicality, and build quality is famously poor as well. There is only one real option for an electric truck that comes with the pricing and capability you expect in the full-size pickup segment and that is the Ford F-150 Lightning.
Every year, Kelley Blue Book releases a series of awards for various aspects of the automotive market with the biggest of these being the Best Buy awards. In 2024, the F-150 didn’t just win the Best Buy award for the full-size truck segment*, it won for the tenth consecutive year. On top of that, the F-150 Lightning won for best electric truck. The F-150 Lightning also won the award for Best Resale Value and Best CPO Value for 2024**.
By any measure that could be used to declare a truck the best, the Ford F-150 is undeniably the best. But this is hardly a secret, the critics have all heaped awards on it, and the public has responded by making it the most popular truck on the market. See how the F-150 is perfect for whatever your truck needs might be with Sarchione Ford Randolph.
