About the Ford Ranger

The Ford Ranger has been a favorite midsize pickup for more than forty years now. With a choice of three different engines and a standard SuperCrew Cab, the Ranger is made to suit whatever your truck needs might be, whether that’s hauling lumber or extreme offroad racing, yes, there is a Ranger configuration for that. The Ranger is built with the same advanced design that has made Ford trucks such a huge hit for decades. The standard 2.3-liter EcoBoost® engine uses the latest in Ford’s advanced engine technology to deliver massive capability without costing a fortune in fuel. The Ranger’s 7,500-pound maximum towing capacity is available with even the base engine, and a 10-speed automatic transmission ensures smooth power delivery at any speed. The interior is comfortable and offers superior ergonomics, as well as equipment that makes the Ranger easy to live with as a daily driver.

What the Critics Say

"The Ranger is a tough customer when you need it to be and a smooth operator when it matters most. Its engine offers refined power delivery while providing the muscular towing and payload capabilities that make trucks a must-have for some buyers." — Car and Driver

"The Ranger has all the right parts and pieces to be a strong pickup truck: Tow/Haul mode, huge real-world payload capacity, it tows like a champ (not an easy thing at this size), and is easy to maintain." — MotorTrend

Ford Ranger Features

Rugged Styling

The Ranger shares many of its styling cues with the bigger F-150, a proven hit with truck buyers, and a highly functional design that makes for a truck that is highly usable in a wide variety of situations. The tailgate makes for easy access to cargo, and can also be locked or unlocked remotely using the keyfob. The upright grille, high beltline, and short overhangs make for a seriously capable offroad machine. This generation of the Ranger has its wheels pushed further out to the corners, with both a longer wheelbase and a wider track, making for better maneuverability on uneven terrain. For those who want even more capability, the FX4 package gives you skip plates, a heavy-gauge steel front bash plate, and exterior badging. For the most offroad capability, as well as the biggest styling statement, there is the Ranger Raptor, a race-ready version with a powerful V6 engine and a lifted Foxâ„¢ Racing suspension setup.

Capable Performance

The Ranger comes standard with a 2.3-liter EcoBoost® engine that produces a robust 270 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque, sending that power through a highly advanced 10-speed automatic transmission. This is enough power that even with the base powerplant, the Ranger is capable of hitting its maximum towing capacity of 7,500 pounds, not something you can say about too many other trucks. For those looking for more power, there is a 2.7-liter EcoBoost® V6 engine that produces 315 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque which uses the same 10-speed transmission. And for those looking for the most power, and the most offroad capability, the Ranger Raptor comes with a 3.0-liter EcoBoost® V6 that makes 405 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. While the Raptor is the best way to go really fast on dirt, it’s not your only option for going offroad in a Ranger. The FX4 Off-Road Package gives the other Ranger trims things like offroad tires, offroad-tuned shocks, and the proprietary Ford Trail Control™. This system comes with five different modes for different types of terrain, and the system can even manage throttle and braking in low-speed situations, so that you can maintain an even speed on uneven terrain.

Technology & Safety

The Ranger incorporates advanced technology to make for a truck that’s more usable than ever. Not only does the advanced engine technology make incredible power, but tech makes the Ranger better as a daily driver too. This starts with the advanced SYNC® 4A infotainment system, with an available 12-inch touchscreen display, as well as a digital instrument cluster. The system is compatible with both Apple CarPlay® & Android Auto™ smartphone integration, and comes with powerful built-in features as well. This includes things like an available 360-degree camera, voice recognition, and a sonorous B&O® Sound System by Bang & Olufsen® with 10 speakers. Safety is also a major focus for the tech in the Ranger, with things like Automatic Emergency Braking coming standard. Additional features like Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Pedestrian Detection, Adaptive Cruise Control, and a Reverse Sensing System are available. The available Blind Spot Information System even includes trailer coverage. The Ranger can even help you avoid low-speed collisions, thanks to Active Park Assist 2.0, which will take over steering, shifting, braking, and accelerating, in order to ensure that you are aligned perfectly in either parallel or perpendicular parking spots.
